White Wine Sangria
(Adapted from The Ultimate A-to-Z Bar Guide) 2 (750ml) bottles of Sauvignon Blanc or White Burgundy 6 oz Cointreau 6 oz Fresh Orange Juice 3 Oz Fresh Lime Juice ½ Cup sugar (dissolved in ¼ Cup boiling water) 16 oz chilled club soda 1 orange, sliced 1 lemon, sliced ½ Cup fresh berries (optional) At least 2 hours in advance, pour first 5 ingredients into a large pitcher, stirring well to ensure all sugar is dissolved. Cover and refrigerate. Just before serving, stir in club soda. Garnish large wine glasses with orange slices, lemon slices and optional berries. Serve with plenty of ice.
I borrowed this idea from my friend Annette, a fabulous hostess. We served this Sangria at a Memorial Day barbeque, and a double batch disappeared in no time. The quality of the wine does matter, so use an affordable but easy to drink wine. Our current pick for Sangria is Geyser Peak Sauvignon Blanc (about $9) Buy by the case, and you can make a pitcher of Sangria any time!
